The Concept of God and Antitheism

One of the most contested topics of all time is the concept of God.  Since time immemorial, the existence of God has been the favorite topics for debates, academic researches and dissertations as people have various perceptions about the existence of God.  There are those who really fight that God exists, while there are others who stress-out that God does not exist and that such existence  is just a mere fabricated idea by men themselves.   Some chose not to give attention to the idea – whether God exists or not, they simply do not care.

This article, however, focuses on those who believe that there is no God.  It does not mean that this write-up put leverage in the non-existence of God, but it simply just presents the side of the antagonist as it is not a hidden fact that majority of the world believes in the existence of God.  In this juncture, let’s put more focus to the minority.

Antitheist is the term given to the person who does not believe in God. Antitheism is the practice of objecting to theism or to the belief of a Supreme Being. In other words, antitheism is simply the belief that there is no heaven, and no Supreme Being or other gods, for that matter.  However, it does not follow that because antitheism does not believe in the existence of God, by default it already believes in the existence of evil.    According to antitheists, the belief of an evil is just synonymous in the act of believing that there is God.

Antitheism simply reason-out in a scientific approach wherein logic plays within what is seen and what is heard.  It believes more in the rationality of scientific reasons, calling it more of a practical belief than a belief on something superstitious.  God can neither be seen nor heard; hence, God does not exist.  This is basically the mantra of antitheism.

Antitheism has met a lot of ridicules and oppositions, especially from those who are die-hard believers of God as well as from those who believe in the importance of religion.  Some people view antitheism as a work of evil, and that those who practice it do not deserve the respect they deserve. However, as people have grown more mature and open-minded about religion and science, some have accepted the idea that when it comes to the existence of God, the ideas clash expectedly.

There are lots of theories and studies that try to agree or disagree the existence of God. As a matter of fact, on the side of non-believers, various theories were born out from such a belief – there is agnosticism, polytheism, misotheism, etc. These theories vary on its belief over the non-existence of God.  However, whatever the belief of an individual, whether he/she is antitheist or not, what is important is that he/she knows how to respect other people’s belief and perceptions about God.  Furthermore, open-mindedness plays an important factor for people to accept that their belief is not all the time the same with other people around them.
